| Nothing that humans can create comes close to the natural wonders
produced by animals such as eider ducks and silkworms. Anyone who has
ever fallen slowly to sleep surrounded by the cosy comfort of eiderdown
combined with natural silk will appreciate that nature and nature alone
is capable of providing such glorious sleep quality. |
The covering materials used for normal goose or duck down duvets have to
be down-proof so that the down can't escape through the fabric.
Eiderdown, on the other hand, possesses entirely unique qualities. It is
finely intermeshed and can be covered with just the finest layer of
silk, the type of silk that the Chinese can trace back to one of their
typically enchanting legends: Sitting underneath a mulberry tree one
day, the Chinese Empress Si Ling Chi watched a caterpillar spinning a
cocoon of shining thread. It sparked her imagination: „I would be
irresistible if I could wear clothes made of such fine threads....". and
so, 5,000 years ago, our fascination with silk began. |
| Shantung silk, a wild silk made from the threads of the tussah
caterpillar, is used for Dauny duvet covers and is sewn in our own
atelier. This exclusive material, with its characteristic nubby texture,
is wonderfully light and soft to the touch. Other fine materials that
are reserved for our Dauny eiderdown covers are intricate, finely
patterned Jacquard fabrics or highest quality Eider Batiste, made using
long staple Egyptian cotton. |
